Sizes & Configurations: Korniche lanterns can be made in a range of rectangular sizes up to about 6m long by 4m wide externally. Common configurations are 4-pane (one big rectangle of glass split by ridge and two rafters) or larger ones with more rafters. They all have a fixed 25° pitch for optimal look and self-clean function. Square lanterns, pyramids (e.g., 2.5m x 2.5m with ridges meeting at a point) are also possible – Korniche offers pyramid style in certain sizes. When designing, we consider sightlines: a ridge down the middle along the long dimension, rafters to the corners – if very long, multiple rafters with a ridge, etc. But since the system can handle big spans, often one ridge and a few rafters handle it. No tie bars needed up to their max span due to strength.

Glass Units: Usually 24mm thick double-glazed units (4mm toughened outer with self-clean/solar coating, 4mm toughened inner with low-E, argon fill). They sit on integral thermal breaks and seal with pressure plates – but Korniche cleverly uses a continuous glazing retainer that the glass ‘clicks’ into, then caps secure it. Externally, caps create a flush look with no visible screws. The stock glass options are Clear, Blue tint, Neutral, etc., often with U-value ~1.0 center-pane. Optionally, triple glazing can be used, but rarely necessary because double is already great.

Thermal Breaks & Seals: Every aluminium profile in Korniche is thermally broken – e.g., the ridge has a polyamide break isolating outside from inside. Even the eaves beam (the frame that sits on your upstand curb) is insulated. All junctions (like rafter-to-eaves) have molded seals or foam gaskets ensuring no drafts or water ingress. The design achieves no cold spots on the interior frame – preventing condensation.

Sightlines & Appearance: Internally, the ridge is narrow and has a subtle classic shape – not just a flat box like some. Rafters too are slim and bolt into ridge with concealed joints. Outside, Korniche comes standard with a finial or cap at ridge ends (optional small decorative ball or crest – you can choose flat if you want a minimalist look). The external ridge cap is low and smooth, mimicking timber. The frame sits on your roof upstand (usually a 150mm tall timber upstand), and has an in-built slope so water doesn’t pool. We supply it with perimeter flashing cover caps that nicely finish the edges. When installed, it looks like an integral part of the roof.

Installation Highlights: The Korniche arrives with pre-cut, pre-drilled components. The sequence is typically: fix eaves frame to roof curb, assemble ridge, attach rafters (which simply drop into ridge notch and are secured with a single bolt), clip on eaves to rafter connectors, insert glass units from above, then cap it all – ridge cap snaps on, rafter top caps clip in, end caps on. No external silicone because gaskets do it, only maybe a sealant between eaves and your roof upstand for weathering. It’s engineered so one doesn’t need to spend time aligning mullions or cutting beads – everything is made to fit precisely out of the box. This ensures the lantern performs as tested (no guesswork on sealing or structure). The speed and consistency are key features that set it apart.
