  • Robust & Long-Lasting: Aluminium doors will not warp, rust, or rot. They are perfectly suited to high-traffic usage such as a frequently used side door or office entrance. The frames are strong yet lightweight, and all components (hinges, locks, closers) are heavy-duty. This means the door will remain smooth-operating and secure through many years of daily use – far outlasting typical timber or composite alternatives.

  • Enhanced Security: We equip all single doors with a multi-point locking system, typically with hooks and deadbolts engaging into reinforced keeps on the frame. Paired with a security cylinder and strong hinges, the doors offer excellent resistance to forced entry. Our residential single doors meet PAS 24 standards for security when required and our commercial variants can include features like panic bar exits or electric strikes for access control. You can trust an aluminium door by BM for peace of mind when it comes to safety.

  • Thermal & Weatherproof: Featuring polyamide thermal breaks and quality seals, our aluminium doors are fully insulated against cold bridging. Drafts and leaks are kept at bay by dual weather seals around the perimeter. Many doors achieve around 1.6–1.8 W/m²K U-values with double glazing, making them compliant with current energy regulations for external doors. They are also tested to withstand heavy rain and wind loads – ideal for exposed side doors (e.g., a coastal cottage’s seaward door).

  • Design Flexibility: Aluminium single doors can be tailored to virtually any design. Want a full glass door for maximum light? We can do that with clear or frosted safety glass. Prefer a mid-rail with glass above and solid insulated panel below (common for back doors)? Done. We can incorporate pet flaps, letterboxes, or bespoke panel designs. Plus, these doors can open inward or outward to suit your space and can be configured for left or right hinge side. The versatility is huge – one reason architects and homeowners alike choose aluminium for custom door solutions.

  • Integration with Glazing: If your door is part of a larger frame (like flanked by sidelights or part of a sunroom), aluminium makes integration seamless. We fabricate doors and adjoining windows as one unit if needed, ensuring sight lines match and couplings are secure. Even stand-alone, an aluminium door’s slim profile looks great next to modern windows. For example, a garage side door or porch door can align with adjacent fixed glazing for a cohesive look. It’s a uniform solution that elevates the overall appearance of the property.

For Trade Professionals

Our Aluminium Single Doors are a staple product for many trade installers – they are straightforward, reliable, and in demand. We supply doors for uses like rear extensions, utility room exits, garage personnel doors, etc., all made to measure. As a fabricator, we ensure the doors are delivered with all hardware pre-fitted (hinges, locks) whenever possible, saving you time on installation. We can also pre-glaze the door if the size allows safe transport, or provide glazing beads for easy site glazing. For larger commercial single doors (say for a shop or school), we utilise our heavy-duty profiles (such as Smart Wall or similar) that come with features like anti-finger-trap stiles and low thresholds – you can confidently bid on commercial jobs knowing we can meet spec. The single door is often part of a bigger project – rest assured we can fabricate and supply matching curtain wall or window elements to go with it, simplifying procurement for you. Our trade support includes CAD drawings and loading charts if needed for any approvals. On-site, installers will find the adjustability of our doors user-friendly: adjustable keeps, hinge adjustments, etc., to dial in a perfect fit. By sourcing from BM Bifolding Doors, you also benefit from quick turnarounds and local service for those urgent replacements or last-minute client requests (e.g., “We need a door with a cat flap!” – we’ve got you covered). It’s a versatile product you’ll find many uses for in residential and light-commercial projects.

For Homeowners & Business Owners

Aluminium single doors are an excellent choice for any doorway that needs to be secure, durable, and low-maintenance. Homeowners might consider an aluminium door for the back of the house – perhaps replacing an old timber back door that has seen better days. The aluminium door won’t absorb moisture or twist, so you eliminate drafts that often plague older doors, and you won’t have to paint it every couple of years. If it’s a kitchen or utility room exit, you might opt for a half-glazed style to maintain privacy while still getting some light; or if it leads to a garden, a mostly glazed door keeps things bright. Additionally, consider internal applications: an aluminium door can work as an internal fire exit door (we offer specific fire-rated aluminium doors if required) or simply a door to separate a porch. Business owners – do you have a side entrance for staff or an exterior door for deliveries? Aluminium doors are workhorses for such needs. They can incorporate door closers for automatic shutting, access control systems (keypads, fob readers), etc., making them ideal for workplace security. Despite being “utility” in many uses, our aluminium doors still look sleek – available in the same range of colours and finishes as our showcase products, so you don’t have to compromise on appearance. Overall, investing in an aluminium door means investing in long-term reliability: no sticking due to weather changes, no rotting away in damp conditions, just a smooth, secure door day in and day out. And with BM Bifolding Doors, you’re getting a product made by experts, tailored to your exact needs, and installed by professionals – a hassle-free improvement to your property.

  • Profile System: Typically fabricated from the Alitherm 400 series for residential doors, which includes a 70 mm deep frame and thermally broken aluminium sections. For commercial-grade singles, we use profiles like Smart Wall or MC Door with thicker walls and higher inertia for very tall doors. The design features a rebated door leaf that sits snugly into the frame for weather sealing.

  • Door Swing & Handing: Can be made to open inward or outward. Outward opening is common for external doors to ease escape in emergencies and to not interfere with interior space (plus it presses into the seal in bad weather). Inward is used when outward clearance is an issue (e.g., door opening onto a public walkway). We define handing by hinge side viewed from outside – e.g., Right Hand Hinged if hinges on right. We will confirm all these details with you.

  • Sills & Thresholds: For external doors, you have the option of adding an aluminium sill section to throw water away from the door (particularly useful if replacing a door in an older house without a proper threshold). The standard threshold is a low profile (about 15–20 mm upstand) with a thermal break. We can also offer a wheelchair-access threshold which is ultra-low and complies with Part M disability access regulations – these often have ramp strips to either side for a flush transition. Weather performance is slightly reduced with the flusher thresholds, but often still very adequate.

  • Glazing & Panels: Single doors can be fully glazed, half-glazed with a insulated aluminium panel, or fully solid with a decorative panel. We use aluminium sandwich panels with insulation for solid portions, in thickness matching the door (e.g., 28 mm panels). These can be flat or have routing to mimic shapes/grooves. We adhere to safety glazing rules: any glass near floor or of large area is toughened/laminated. We also ensure any cat flap or letterbox cut-outs do not compromise security by reinforcing around the opening.

  • Hardware: Standard residential spec comes with lever/lever handles (operable from both sides) and a euro-cylinder lock. If you prefer outside blank and inside lever (e.g., for a storeroom where entry is controlled), we can do that too. We provide high-security cylinders as standard. Optionally, we can integrate with smart locks or access control. Hinges are typically 3 or 4 per door depending on size – colour matched. For outward doors, we can fit door restrictors (to avoid door blowing against wall). For inward doors, overhead door closers can be fitted neatly for self-closing function (often required in fire doors or desired for convenience). Every door is equipped with adjustable keeps to ensure a tight seal when locked.

Our single doors come in the full suite of finishes. Many people choose to match the door to either their window frames or to an existing door colour scheme around the house. Neutral tones like white, grey, black are always available, but you can also pick something bold for a pop of colour (perhaps a bright yellow or red for a side door – it can be a fun accent). The same high-quality powder coating process applies; even though this may be a “side” or secondary door, we don’t skimp on finish – it gets the same treatment as a front door would. Dual-colour is possible if, for instance, you want the outside to blend with brickwork and the inside white to match interior walls. For commercial orders, we can match corporate colours or anodise for extra durability. No matter the colour, aluminium’s ability to maintain that finish means your door will look great for years without repainting. Just let us know the RAL or BS code, or even send us a sample if it’s something unique – we’ll match it.

If your door design includes glass, we’ll use appropriate double-glazed units, tailored to the door. Clear toughened glass is standard for maximum visibility and light. If privacy is needed (like on a bathroom outer door or utility room), we can use frosted or obscure glazing. There’s also the option of decorative glazing – perhaps a Georgian grid to match other windows, or sandblasted house numbers etched into the glass for a side door. All glass will be safety glass as required by building standards. We also consider thermal performance: Low-E glass with argon fill is standard to keep the U-value low. For north-facing or shaded side doors, we can even use a special Low-E that maximises solar gain (to capture what little sun there is). Conversely, for doors getting strong sun, a subtle tint or solar control layer can help. The glass units will also often be laminated if the door is near a public footpath (for security and safety if broken). If triple glazing is requested, we can incorporate that given the profile allows (some residential door profiles can accept 32 or 36 mm units). Essentially, the glass in your aluminium door is customizable just like a window – we’ll advise the best spec based on your usage and performance needs.

For further details, you might refer to our Alitherm Aluminium Doors Catalogue, which includes single door specifications and options (this can be found in our product literature downloads). We also have a Hardware Brochure that shows the handle and lock options for our doors – useful if you want to browse the style of lever handle, threshold, etc. For technical performance data (U-values, wind/water ratings), the Product Data Sheet for our residential doors is available to download. If you are considering a commercial application, we can provide the Smart Commercial Door (Shopfront) brochure which details heavier-duty door specs. Installation instructions and maintenance guidelines are similar to our French doors and are also accessible in the downloads section. Don’t hesitate to grab these PDFs – they’ll give you confidence that every aspect of our aluminium single doors has been carefully designed and tested.
